Unique Performance Coaching

FAQs

The UPC Club is where we believe everyone above the ages of 16 would be suited for general health and fitness, visit the UPC Club for more information. We also specialise in Youth Development for ages 9 -15, more information will be released soon.

Every member of the UPC Club can access the full programme online, track their results and be part of the community with the up-to-date information.

All class bookings are available via the UPC app so you can reserve anytime up to 15minutes before a class starts. Please remember to cancel classes if you can’t make it so we can maximise the quality of coaching.

We pride ourselves on a high quality of coaching, therefore we recommend all members attend the coached sessions. We do offer a number of open gym slots where members can train independently, however from years of experience we know that this can increase the risk of injury due to unstructured training and also limits the results and therefore value of the membership.

We offer different packages to suit your needs, with some members completing personal 1-1 coached sessions alongside a group setting. We also have some members completing structured 1-1s until they feel ready to attend a group environment, we recommend you enquire with your individual needs so a package can be worked out for you. You are more than welcome to agree a time to visit us or agree a time for a phone call to discuss further.

The WOD is the Workout of the Day and is used to describe the specific movement and exercises each UPC Club class will be doing. The WOD consists of the UPC Club Performance Programme which you can read about here What is the UPC WOD, we programme 3 x Strength and Conditioning sessions, 1 x Breathe and Burn Session, 1 x Endurance Day. We recommend trying 2-3 sessions a week for 30 days before you get a good understanding of the full programme.

No matter the level, everything is prescribed personally so the workouts can be fitted to meet anyone. The key ingredient to success here is consistency in following your current level of fitness. We won’t push you to do anything you don’t want to do but we will show you how you can achieve what you didn’t think was possible. We believe no matter what your current fitness / health is at, we can prescribe a level for you.

Classes are 45-50minutes long and made up generally of three main sections. First there is a programmed warm up, followed by a more detailed review of the movements or some strength work. We then finish off with a group workout (or WOD). The final workouts vary in length but are usually within the 10–20-minute time frame apart from endurance day and breathe and burn that are longer conditioning sessions targeting that longer form of metabolic conditioning.

Dependent on your goal and availability we would work specifically with each individual on this. We do recommend that everyone should be able to achieve great results just following the UPC Workout of the Day but understand some people need more care and attention until they build up confidence. Enquire for more information on how we may be able to help you.

Boot camps are generally large group sizes in a public place and there is minimal equipment, so you get far less individual attention and, therefore, are less likely to improve on your technique.

At UPC there is a purpose-built facility, specialist equipment and highly trained coaching staff running small group personal training classes.

Yes, we have an online community that follow the UPC WOD, therefore you can join any gym with a decent functional training space and follow the programme.  We also offer online coaching where you can send in your videos and gain support to develop your technique online.  We believe that by being part of the UPC Community, you’ll trainer harder, better, and get more support with technique, motivation and diet. You’ll probably train more too.

Anything that’s comfortable and allows you to move freely. Shorts and T shirts / Vests are always the best option as you are guaranteed to get warm, some people start with some layers and remove as the workout progresses.

We love members who support us by purchasing some of the UPC Apparel to help spread the word. They are also designed with the best material for this type of training.

If we were to recommend any purchases, then a good lightweight training shoe can be a great purchase once you have passed your first month of training. Speak to the coaches for ideas based on your budget of course.

We advise you bring a hand towel and a bottle of water to help you feel comfortable during training.

We have changing facilities and showers on site so you can bring a change of clothes, towel and toiletries.

We have 2 changing rooms, one male, one female. Both with 3 showers.

We have rowers, bike and ski ERGs. However, we believe that machines mostly force your body to move in unnatural ways and can put unacceptable stresses on your joints. We programme functional movements which move your joints through their natural range and improve your mobility. This helps you perform better across your daily life and sports due to the performance benefits received.

We don’t tie you into contracts. We believe what we offer is so much more than any conventional gym that our actions and training methods will keep you coming back. We do ask for a 30-day notice period as a good will gesture to help the business support all memberships.
